Sassafras has been part of Brisbane’s café story since 1997 when we opened and started serving breakfast and good coffee all day. Before that Sassafras had been home to the iconic Brisbane delis Cornucopia and Galichet’s.

In 2014, we gave ourselves a makeover and introduced a new breakfast menu and canteen lunch concept. We were inspired to take this new approach by people like Mike McEnearney from Kitchen by Mike in Sydney and Yotam Ottolenghi.

Three principles are important to us.

Good food. We want to serve the kind of food we love to eat—and cater for people who like meat and those who don’t.

But it has to taste good.

Good coffee. We know coffee is a personal thing but we love the depth of flavour in Bear Bones Espresso and we love the fact that it’s roasted nearby in Fortitude Valley.

Good, really good service. What other kind of service is there?
