Inspired by Kitchen by Mike

img1The first time we went to Kitchen by Mike in Sydney, we were blown away. Here was a way of serving lunch that we had never seen before. A gorgeous counter groaning with fresh salads, roast meat, pizza, sandwiches, tarts and everything that you could ever want for lunch.

And above all, it was such a simple way of choosing what you wanted—ordering with your eyes and taking your selection to the table with you. It made so much sense to us, on so many levels. Quick, beautiful food, served simply with no fuss and no pretension.

So we re-modelled ourselves, our front room and transformed our ancient deli counter that had long been a fixture at 88 Latrobe Terrace into a granite serving counter—and started our Sassafras canteen concept.

We love Mike McEnearney’s food and we had long worshipped the fresh food of Yotam Ottolenghi—this is the sort of food that we want to eat all the time. Good for our bodies and great for our taste buds. Even better for our souls.

Christian Zirbel, our chef, and his small team have brought their own experience, views, skills and tastes to our menu, especially our canteen lunch menu. We are so proud of the food that we are serving. It’s a special pleasure to offer it every day of the week in Brisbane.
